I took the Glacier Guide to Davidson Glacier, departing from Skagway. The views were incredible, which is the only reason I enjoyed the trip. The staff, however, was ridiculous. The "naturalist" had no idea about the area. I asked simple questions and he couldn't answer them. The tour guides only talked about themselves and their lifestyle of living in the wilderness. We heard about their alcohol use and their crazy stories, including how they make fun of the customers behind their backs. But we didn't hear much about the glaciation or history of the region. If you want to go on a trip with a bunch of "bros" from college, then take this trip. Otherwise, you might want to seek out a more knowledgeable group. I did the dog mushing tour. Kevin was our tour guide. He was knowledgeable, informative, gregarious and hilarious. The tour was filled with breathtaking views at every turn on the way up the mountain to the musher camp. Kevin kept us entertained the entire way with his comedy routine. Imparting his knowledge to us regarding the history of the area in an easy going, friendly manner. We transferred to a Unimog which was mnd blowing in itself and went farther into the most beautiful country I have ever seen. The dog mushing team was fun and very informative. Back to musher camp for puppy talk and some really sweet puppies to hold. Delighted with this tour! Definitely my favorite. Great value. Ask for Kevin he takes care of every detail. You will not be sad! Best day ever!!! I booked the Dog Sled Adventure and to my surprise I had the tour to myself. It was an awesome one on one opportunity. Not only did I have one musher to ask questions but I had three, my Guide and unimog driver were awesome as well. When I arrived back down to learn more I was greeted with a huge hug and welcome from the employee as well. She was very informative and could tell she has a love for the sport. When talking with me she was explaining about a young girl who competed in the JR Iditarod and how the dogs and sport has helped her, she was in tears just talking about it. KUDOS TO ALL Who made my experience AWESOME. My wife and I did the dog sled excursion and absolutely loved it. Our tour guide Kevin was hilarious and very informative. Definitely request him if you can. The tour involved a scenic bus ride up to the dog camp with a few stops at some of the best look-out spots in Skagway. Once we arrived at the camp, a group of experienced dog sled guides loaded us into 6 person carts that were pulled by 16 Alaskan huskies. You'd be supprised how fast those dogs can go! After that we had a quick info course on the history of dog sledding and state of the industry today. The excursion ended with a puppy meet-&-greet which was awesome (my wife's favorite part). I'd recommend this excursion to anyone who likes having fun, learning, seeing incredible scenery and playing with dogs. Again, ask for Kevin as your tour guide, he's the man. Davidson Glacier An unforgettable experience – 5 stars We went on Alaska Excursions’ Davidson Glacier tour. It was well worth the money. It is one of the top things we did on our vacation. You are literally a stones through from the glacier in all of its beauty and awe. The excursion was 6 hours of fun, adventure and learning, starting with a high speed boat ride from Skagway Harbor to Glacier Point. The boat ride was amazing both going and returning. Elise narrated the tour supplying us with lots of interesting and educational information about glaciers and the area. She worked with boat captain Connor making sure we had a great ride with plenty of photo ops. with great scenery including bald eagles, harbor seals, water falls and breath taking views of glaciers. Arriving at Glacier Point we were met by guides Kevin, Jake and Nate. They actually live on the island and are totally into their jobs. They provided us with sandwiches and other treats before boarded small busses to their base camp. The guys provided a lot of information while at the same time being very entertaining. At their base camp they out fitted us with boots, life vest as well as wind breakers for anyone who wanted one. We then walked thorough a beautiful wooded trail to an area where we boarded canoes which would take us to the Davidson Glacier. The ride to the glacier provided magnificent views of the glacier. Kevin was the guide for our canoe, which transported us a little over a mile to the glacier. Kevin gave us the history of the area, explained how a glacier is formed and how the glacier has changed over time. We walked the rest of the way to the glacier, at times walking through several inches of water – thus the boots. We were given ample time at the glacier. This is an amazing lifetime experience. The guys gave us a lot of information about the glacier itself. They offered to take pictures and answered questions before taking us back the way we came. The tour was well-coordinated and conducted with safety in mind at all times. The whole experience – boat ride to glacier point, bus ride and walk around glacier point, canoe ride up to the glacier – was an amazing once in a life time experience, only made even more perfect by the knowledgeable, caring and fun staff who work for Alaska Excursions. They have done a great job in recruiting these bright young people from all over the country to make this one of the best tours I have ever been on. Special thanks to Elise, Connor and Kevin, a talented group of people. They love what they do; they care and it shows. I highly recommend this tour for a fun filled day and lifetime experience.
